The Collective

in.di.go // waX began in Malta in 2018, born out of five friends, loud techno records, and the belief that this music doesn’t need darkness to work.

The first in.di.go happened on a surprisingly rainy Sunday morning in May at Gianpula Village. The clouds cleared, and we enjoyed our first of many day-long-sessions on a rooftop with a pool, wooden decking, and the kind of setting usually reserved for sunsets and cocktails. It shouldn’t have worked – but we’re glad it did.

Sunlight, heat, and driving rhythms clicked. The dancefloor found its shape early. Today, The Rooftop at Gianpula is still where in.di.go calls home.

waX arrived later, in 2020. A winter counterpart. A Saturday night idea hosted in a different room in the same clubbing village. Then everything stopped, started, stopped again. Like everyone else, we suffered the same disruption of those crazy times.

Through persistence, stubbornness, and an unreasonable amount of work — largely driven by Andrew Vella, with Christian Calafato alongside him — waX resurfaced as something else entirely: Sunday daytime, open air, at Groove Gardens.

Groove Gardens is a greener space, with trees overhead and an intimate dancefloor. A space that feels Mediterranean in the truest sense — beautiful and alive. To make it work year-round, a custom metal structure was built to shield the dancefloor from the elements without closing it in, ready in time for the first Sunday waX in February 2023.

By the end of that year, waX had settled into its rhythm. No longer a side project, but a force. The winter half of the story.

Today, the in.di.go // waX project unfolds across ten events a year. waX occupies the colder months — February, March, April, October and November. in.di.go takes over in summer, from May through September, when Malta bakes and the days stretch long.

The project is shaped by its five co-founders — Gordon Scerri, Matthew Bugeja, Chris Muscat, Christian Calafato and Andrew Vella — but sustained by something larger: a network of micro-scenes, crews, dancers and selectors who keep showing up.

Between May 2018 and November 2025, we’ve hosted 55 events, and a roster of artists which have fuelled so many incredible Sundays:
